Goal setting can be helpful in all areas of life. Whether your goal is to run a 10k, spend more time with your family, or learn something new, articulating what you want begins the journey. As teachers, we need to clearly ARTICULATE learning goals for both ourselves and our students. For teachers, clarifying and prioritizing our goals provides us with an essential filter for making decisions as we design learning opportunities, develop assessments, and provide feedback to our students. For students, clear targets allow them to focus their energies and efforts. Students know what they need to learn and can concentrate on those explicitly stated big ideas, rather than working their way through a unit trying to guess what's really important.
